Curator of Life

"What exactly does a curator do?" My 11-year old kid asked me.  "He/ she plans an exhibition, decides the theme and what to exhibit, where to place things and how to go about conducting the exhibition, whom to invite etc." I replied. And then I went into the usual self-doubt mode. Whenever my kid asks me a question, I wonder if I know enough to do justice to the answer. What if I end up missing the important facts, and what if she makes an important life decision based on this piece of info! Ask me about the parenting challenges of a tween's mother.    So we quickly cross-checked with Google and learnt that a curator finds, buys and manages valuable or rare items, learns about its history, chooses the items and decides how to display them. Now, we found the perfect answer, but I'm left with a larger question-  "Aren't we the curator of our own lives?" Our life is definitely the most valuable and rarest thing on earth, and we should be the one d...

Tabula Rasa

I came across this Latin word recently, the meaning sounds quite interesting. It means a clean slate, just like the human mind at birth that is devoid of any preconceived notions and ideas. This word seems so relevant during current times. Until a year ago, we all had plans about our lives, including career, travel, entertainment and so on. But for the past one year, there has been so much of uncertainty that I wonder and fear if we will have to reimagine all our plans from scratch. For a year we had been postponing plans, but now things look quite bleak again. There has been so much of unprecedented changes around us, in the way we work, in our education system, and most importantly in the way we interact and connect with each other. Everything is so virtual, that virtual is almost real these days. Recently my six-and-half-yr-old daughter (she insists I mention it that way) casually commented ' I don't think Corona is ever going to leave us. We are going to live with it. '...

The Intangibles

I was reading an article written by an economy-expert-cum- friend on where to invest. The article, a pure economic outlook concluded with a food for thought, 'Should we not be investing in relationships, feelings and friendships.' That was truly the takeaway for me from this article. We all read and listen to umpteen talks on where to invest, where not to invest, and when, how, why, why not, which, whom, whose etc. Now that's a lot of interrogatives (Remember Wren and Martin's English grammar lessons!); but that's what the media is all about. They want to answer all the questions that the nation wants to know. Clearly the tangibles are taken care of by the media. Now the Intangibles I'm referring to are not investments in tax havens and Swiss accounts. I am talking about intangibles that are truly invaluable like time spent for loved ones,  treasured friendships, kind gestures, humble deeds and social responsibilities, and emotional accomplishments in the for...
