Gorgeous Georgia
I have two hours to kill before I board the flight to Muscat. There is no better time, as travel brings out the creative me and makes we want to write or sketch. This trip to Georgia is special for more than one reason. Travelling was a couple goal we adopted few years ago, thanks to my soul mate who made me realise that travel is that one thing we buy for ourselves that will make us richer for a lifetime. What better way to celebrate fifteen years of our togetherness! Cheers, it did culminate in some wine-tasting at the Kakheti Winery!
This trip was special for other reasons; our first time in Europe, our first real snowfall experience, and more so as my little girl is turning out to be a cool and independent travel partner. Another unique aspect was that we travelled in a group this time. That was a wonderful experience as it made us feel like a bunch of college students on a field trip with our History lecturer. Needless to say, our amazing guide Nino was a human encyclopedia, who seemed to have answers to all our questions about Georgia. At times I felt like I was watching a documentary on Georgia, comparing facts between today's independent Georgia with the old Russian-controlled Georgia, giving due credits to Russia for the many developmental work undertaken. She gave us interesting insights on various aspects from religious beliefs and geo-political facts to Georgian cuisines.
We travelled in a group of 20 who were initially strangers in the age group ranging from two to fifties, but who were able to strike a chord when it came to travel. Our Georgian guide and two beautiful girls from Lebanon added a pinch of national diversity to the otherwise (South) Indian crowd. My daughter will always remember our Lebanese friend who sleeps like a baby! :) I realise that tolerance is a virtue, and this allowed all of us to freely exchange ideas and thoughts; we did have a healthy debate on the safety aspects of the cable car. Little acts of kindness go a long way in building new friendships and strengthening bonds.
Georgia had an unbelievable number of (stray) dogs everywhere, which look amazingly adorable and make you want to bring them home. From snowfall at Gadauri to sunshine amidst chill winds at Bodbe, the weather is indeed a treat to cherish. I would love to come back to witness the blossoms on the apple and plum trees turn into succulent fruits.
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant -Anne Bradstreet
Similarly in the absence of adversity, prosperity would not seem so appealing and sought out. As I look forward to our next travel, I am filled with bliss, memories and gratitude.
Sharing some food for thought!
